Info on emotional deafness?

I was trying to explain this to someone last night and it was not easy. Long story. I have googled in various search engines to try and find something but nada. Does anyone know of a good article or another term i could search with?

Don't know, is it a term in common usage? The only article I found was from 1951 and related to soldiers (http://journals.cambridge.org/action/displayAbstract?fromPage=online&aid=731120).

That's a new one on me, too! I'll have to ask a commuting friend who lectures in psychology if she knows the term.

Emotional deafness is when someone is speaking to you and because of anxiety or whatever else is going on you either don't hear or misinterpret what the other person says. It has created a lot of challenges in my life. And in the lives of many people.

The only thing that comes to mind is it's opposite - emotional intelligence. Maybe this term can help you search for what you're looking for.
