Sad  therapy break
Hi Everyone.
We are down yet another therapist as my son was not comfortable with her and my instincts screamed this was a poor match.
For the time being we are going to take a break from therapy. There are so few therapists in the USA that treat DID, let alone believe it exists, and if they do they aren't interested in seeing a teenager. We are both sick of telling his experience only to be looked upon as if we are insane. It is truly sad when you can't find appropriate treatment for your child.
I suppose all I can do in the meantime is love and support him and use my education as a clinical social worker to assist him. Hopefully in the future I can secure appropriate psychological services for him.
I feel bad but know I must push on.
Thanks for listening. Glad you are all here.

Hi Reilly,

We're sorry that it didn't work out with your son's T. We're sending good thoughts to you all.

I'm sorry it didn't work out again :-(. How discouraging to have this experience repeatedly.

Perhaps the time will come later when it will be better to work specifically on trauma and dissociation stuff. I tend to believe things happen for a reason and hope that down the road you will both be able to see some rhyme and reason to this.

Thanks Elizabethn.
While I wish there were more therapists who would deal in child trauma and dissociation I recognize that taking him to therapists that claim to be specialists have caused him more harm than good. I know of a couple of good programs but he must be an adult (which he will be in a few years). So for now I will be the best Mom to him that I can be. Perhaps simply being safe and cared for will bring a measure of healing. I hope so!

Sometimes carrying the label of "specialist" can be misleading.

Perhaps as time goes on, you and he will see ways in which he could get some help for things that are not about DID treatment but that will help him navigate the teen years more comfortably.
