RE: Coping with noise
Somebody we know recently recommended Etymotic as a brand of earplug which has a uniquely comfortable design. They share our issue of not being able to wear ordinary earplugs because of autism-related sensory issues, so we put more weight on the recommendation.

Apparently Etymotic also makes earbuds, but we have no interest in those for the same reasons others have given. Too much white noise and we get auditory hallucinations, anyway, which are not desired in the middle of the work day. Smile

RE: Coping with noise
Interesting Irenes. I have never heard of this brand. I shall look for them. However, I sill worry that if I keep my ears plugged I won't hear what is behind me.

Yeah, we don't have an answer for that concern. But do let us know how they are, if you try them.
