Question  Question about others
Ok here's a question, not sure if anyone knows but its burning in back of heard like Ive read something somewhere bout something butcant remember exactly.
Here goes:
When parts are inside, what do they do while others are out. ? Are they asleep until come out or do they do things inside. ? N just not remember when they come out.

If a child part wants to come out but not good idea at the time or u need to distract a part so they don't fully come out can u get them to do something inside?

Is there an inside world? Where the parts are when are not out in outside world?
I have this feeling, someone told me there is n tried to get me to go there. But he was bit dodgy I think so not sure how much was a suggestion thing n whether any of it was real.

Feedback  RE: Question about others
Hi,

This probably isn't the answer your looking for, but for each question, it depends on the particular system involved. Each system is set up in a way that works for that system, and one system's workings may or may not work for another system.

We can, however, speak about our own system, and about how our own values shape the way that we run our system.

When parts are inside, what do they do while others are out. ? Are they asleep until come out or do they do things inside. ? N just not remember when they come out.

Even after 18 years of knowing that we're multiple, we're still not sure what happens when people are inside. We believe that some sort of activity does occur; as with singletons, some portion of what we process naturally occurs in the subconscious. But beyond this, we don't have an answer.

If a child part wants to come out but not good idea at the time or u need to distract a part so they don't fully come out can u get them to do something inside?

We're going to address this question on two levels: First, at face value, and then, in a broader sense.

The face value answer: We believe it's generally a good idea to have younger (or otherwise vulnerable) insiders supervised at all times, whether or not these insiders are present on the outside. As with outside children, inside children need some measure of structure and guidance to ensure their continued well-being. Even if they're allowed to simply play somewhere inside, it helps to have someone accountable for them, even from a distance.

It's sort of like the outside parent watching from the kitchen while the children play in the backyard. If an intruder enters the yard, or if a thunderstorm starts, the parent brings the children inside to safety. Otherwise, the children play as circumstances permit.

The broader answer would apply regardless of the age of the insider in question. In a particular circumstance, is it appropriate for this insider to be out? If not, what action do we take?

In general, we've found that it's not easy to force an insider to do anything. However, we do understand that there are situations where it is critical to limit a particular insider's activity if that insider is likely to act in a way that is harmful to the system. It helps to have a plan of action before such a situation occurs.

Some things to consider: Which insiders will be called upon to enforce this plan of action? What specific protective actions will they take? What has to occur before the system can return to normal behavior?

Our system is fortunate that we rarely experience these critical situations. But we do know who we can count on and what we need to do if critical mode becomes necessary.

Is there an inside world? Where the parts are when are not out in outside world?

Our system does have an inside world. However, it was far from fully accessible to us at the beginning. We found it very frustrating that it took time for more areas of our inner world to become known to us.

While we aren't absolutely certain, we think that the degree to which we are aware of our inner world is tied in with how many of the total number of insiders that we've met. We became aware of our system in 1996 and found everyone by 2003. After realizing that we'd found everyone, we had much less difficulty visualizing the workings of our inner world. It may be that insiders "in hiding" hide not only themselves but the world that they live in. But we don't know for sure.

We hope that our response is helpful in some way.
