Very short PDoc appointment today. We chatted about the idea of my going back to work. She thinks it would be good as long as I don't jump into the equivalent of a cement truck.

I will be 55 in a while. Don't celebrate Bdays for a lot of reasons. But my friends are just a year younger than me - my longest term friends - and 2 in particular are now putting in their last year before retirement. I went to University with one. Married with 2 kids. The other has 3 and all 5 have done well though at various stages of life. I met her my second year out of school as we moved to a community at the same time when we were all young and foolish. They will leave their jobs with full pensions as will their husbands.

My PDoc tried to make me feel better by saying that I did well considering where I started. Both friends came from 'normal' families. Squabbles and stuff but parents were supportive and siblings too. The kind of childhoods kids should have. They are both still amazingly close to mothers (and 1 Dad that is left) and with their siblings.

But it is not f*ck*ng FAIR!
