One of the advantages of no longer working. Socializing with people you cannot stand drives me crazy. At my last job I refused to participate in Secret Santa. Years ago I made the decision that I wouldn't buy gifts out of guilt. When I got the name of someone who drove me nuts and she made such a big deal of everything I stuck in her mailbox I was done.

That would drive us crazy too.

Our department has had an Ugly Sweater party the last couple of years. We went last year, but this year we conveniently had a doctor's appointment, which was rescheduled at the last minute, but we chose to take the afternoon off anyway.

Unwanted socializing already being a given, there's an obvious reason to be turned off by the whole ugly sweater thing. We wouldn't *unintentionally* buy an ugly sweater, so why would we buy one intentionally? Hellooooo?!? And then you're stuck with the thing in your closet....*and* they expect you to come up with another ugly sweater the following year?

*headdesk*

Last year, when we did attend, we wore our Charlie Brown sweatshirt. You know, yellow with the black zigzag stripe near the bottom. Nothing holiday about it. But it's garish enough to technically qualify as ugly.

No more of these parties. We don't need that sh*t.

RE: Company Holiday Party. Ugh.
Our work also throws a big xmas party that we have been hounded continuously over the last couple weeks to go. It is very dressy and supposed to be elegant. We used to go but these last couple of years-couldn't bring ourselves to do it so people heard a lot of nos this year and it got to the point where I almost said yes just to shut people up and stop asking us with NO intention of going. Finally it is over and the party is finished--now we get to hear about all the gossip going around at work of who did what and who fell down drunk.......reminders of why we don't go in the place!

PS--I like the idea of a barf icon Smile We should get one of those.

Doing okay  RE: Company Holiday Party. Ugh.
Pretty sure we could find a barf icon if we bothered to look. If we could find a fart icon, we could find a barf icon.

Thanks for letting us know how much you understand.

Scared  RE: Company Holiday Party. Ugh.
I would rather go to an ugly sweater party than a dress in your best party. Bleck! In those cases the harder I try the more I feel like I stand out from the crowd.

Caution  RE: Company Holiday Party. Ugh.
Not a big fan of dressing up either, but as long as we don't have to wear a dress or a skirt, we don't care. Dresses/skirts are too MT for us.

Thanks for the validation. Although we're sorry that you also feel this way. Undecided

if dresses are necessary, they include shorts/leggings under - then its just like wearing a long shirt. so rarely go to anything dressy that this has always worked..Wink
