So overwhelmed may b MT - The People - 05-24-2015

Today after church there was a presentation on things like personal directives and other issues that people need to think about as they get older. Not just a will but health directives.

I am so depressed now. Who would I name as the person to make my decisions for me should that be needed? Nobody. I no longer feel close to the people who were plan A. We barely talk and they don't even know who I am or what I struggle with. Never call. I get a text on occasion and that is it.

Then there is the financial aspect of things where the woman I spoke with actually suggested that I declare bankruptcy. I really got into debt when I moved to the city. Between paying for T, getting sick and living multiple I have too much debt. People who are working might not consider it to be enormous but unless I win the lottery I will never get it paid off. I feel so ashamed re how my life has turned out. It is as if all of the effort I made to get away from FOO and create a good life for myself simply cannonballed me into a mud puddle that is so deep I cannot get out.

hi People, this sounds like it hurts but it doesn't sound like failure to us at all. getting away from FOO is a huge and incredibly difficult achievement that many NEVER manage with all the best intentions in the world. you function. you have a credible life. the fact that you don't have people you can call on for end-of-life issues doesn't make you any different from huge numbers of people who consider themselves successful. these issues are hard for many people. that's why they have presentations on them and specialists to give advice. for us, we know what we want done if we get to a stage where we can't make decisions or are dead and we don't much care who is the responsible person for this b/c presumably we'll be too out of it to care by then. we'd just pick any random professional we respect (maybe a church leader, med person, etc) and a younger back-up and then forget about it. doesn't really matter if we're not close to that person as we won't be having conversations at that stage. that's how we view it anyway. it's not a failure of you, it's a failure of modern society.
