our christmas day
my daughter and her three kids came up on saturday. we had a really nice weekend with them. then, monday morning, the oldest child got sick. her fever spiked at 103. children’s motrin brought the fever down, and she was feeling better by afternoon.

christmas morning we get up, and the fever is back. after the present opening concluded, my daughter said she felt like she needed to take the kids home. part of her decision was based on the fact that it was raining hard, and was predicted to freeze over night, and she didn’t want to drive on ice the next morning.

so… she and the kids packed up their van and left about 10:00 am. hubby and i went to see his mother in sulphur spsrings, which is about a 90 minute drive. we had a good visit with his mom, and while there the rain turned to snow. we watched the snow begin to accumulate and decided we better head home at about 4:00.

the 90 minute drive turned into a 3-1/2 hour drive because of the snow. we saw multiple cars spun off the road, as well as a tractor-trailer laying on its side. i was very glad i knew how to drive in the snow. i don’t think i ever went any faster than 35 mph. it was quite an adventure.

and daughter got home well before the snow started, so she avoided the traffic snarls (she lives 3 hours south of us).
