Thank you. I've written here under my own name before, years ago. This was before it became apparent that I had reason to do otherwise.

My preference for not discussing things with others inside is based on my belief that they do not have appropriate skills in dealing with others, either in terms of the situation in question or in terms of their role within the situation. This lack of skill is based on our history of having external authority figures who were similarly inadequate.

I am by no means the only person inside with this opinion. However, I hold a firm and non-negotiable belief that it is the responsibility of older and more experienced individuals to guide younger ones. Therefore, the older members of the system (adults), reach out only to other adults, whether internal or external, for guidance and support.

Under ideal circumstances, this scenario would not be problematic. But I find very few people, inside or outside, who meet my expectations. Too many people in our past have failed us.

So this leaves others inside repeatedly asking what it is about others that I find inadequate. These conversations end up going around in circles and accomplishing nothing. Today one of our teens asked a different question: "What *do* you want from people?"

I didn't have an answer. I believe this is because I think that it's a given that other people will be inadequate and will not give us what we need. I haven't thought about what I do want in specific terms.

Thank you for reading.

Rachel
