The part that says "the home that never was" is what hits home with me. I remember when the parents died. The sadness was not the loss of them but the loss of hope that they would ever become the people I wanted them to be; needed them to be.

Yes, yes, many times yes. In my case, it isn't so much about our mother dying, because I've felt this pain for our entire life. She could never be the mother that we needed her to be. It frustrates me when our T and other people speak of "self-parenting" as the best way to heal from this need. Self-parenting will never take the place of the real thing.

I hear your frustration Charity and totally agree with you! Self parenting doesn't replace the real thing............it only makes the loss of not having it feel so much worse for us.
